OUR HISTORY

 

“those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history”

 

Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, spoke these words, a distinguished black author, editor , publisher, and historian known as the “Father of Black
History,” (December 1875- April 1950).

  In the city of Chicago, the Association for the study of Negro Life and History was established by Dr. Carter Woodson and several friends.

It appeared to be one of the oldest learned journals in the United States.

1926, Negro history week was developed.  1937, the first Negro History Bulletin was publish.   Dr Woodson hoped that Negro History Week wouldn’t be necessary. He hoped all would recognize the contributions
of Black Americans as a legitimate and integral part of history.  His outstanding Historical Research
influences so many other.

Dr. Woodson profound concept brought dignity to all Black Americans
