Reverend Dr. Henry L. Masters, Sr. preached the following sermon this past Sunday. I simply must share it.
"There's a Rat Trap in the House"

Seems like Mr & Mrs Farmer had observed Mr. Rat getting fat and sassy and a little too comfortable, so they decided to do something.
A few weeks later the parcel post delivered a brown package to the farmhouse and Mr. Rat, being a rather inquisitive fellow peeked inside to see what the package contained. Must to his horror, he saw that the package contained a rat trap!
Mr. Rat ran to his "friends" in the barnyard, first he went up to Mrs. Chicken, "Mrs. Chicken! Oh Chicken! There's a rat trap in the house!"
"That's not my problem! I'm a chicken", and so saying she shooed Mr. Rat away and went back to her scratching and pecking for worms.
"Oh Pig! Pig! There's a rat trap in the house!" Mr. Rat squealed to Mr. Pig.
"Well, now thats your problem, isn't it? I'm a pig", and so saying, Mr. Pig snorted loudly and went back to munching on his corn.
"Ms. Cow! There's a rat trap in the house!"
"Moooooove on aside! I ain't got time to listen to your problems", and she went back to eating her grass and flicking flies with her tail.

Mr. Farmer set the trap, and he and his wife retired for the night. Around one in the morning, they heard a loud click! The rat trap had been sprung and the farmers wife jumped up to see. Now it was dark, the moon was hidden behind a cloud, without waiting to light a candle, the farmer's wife foolishly reached down to pick up the rat trap; but instead of a rat, a poisionous snake had been caught by the tail and the snake gave the farmer's wife a vicious bite!
When the farmer found his stricken wife, he promply killed the snake and rushed his wife to the hospital where doctors gave her medicine and told the farmer that she would require excellent care to regain her health and strength.
Several days later, as the wife began to regain her appetite, she asked the farmer for, you guessed it...chicken soup. Now remember, "There's a Rat Trap in the house", of course it wasn't the chicken's problem, that is until the farmer got down his hatchet and made short work of the chicken and made his wife some chicken soup!
Now the wife unfortunately developed complications which left her unable to put up any perserves against winter, no pickling, and no meat, but the farmer knew how to do this and so with winter on its way, he decided to get a head start on perserving some meat. Down came the hatchet and...good-bye Mr. Pig. "There's a Rat Trap on the house...it wasn't the pig's problem either"
Sometimes in life the unthinkable happens. The farmer's wife took a turn for the worse, in fact she died. Because they were such a beloved couple, people came from miles around to offer their condolences, relatives poured into the little farmhouse, well over 200 people not counting the neighbors and well wishers from the town where the farmer and his deceased wife resided. These people had to be fed so with a heavy heart, the farmer agreed to let some of the relatives use the, you guessed it, the cow to supply meat for the repast. Interestingly enough, the rat was the only one left alive because he sounded the warning, "There's a Rat Trap in the House"

Brothers and Sisters, theres a rat trap in the house and it is everybody's problem. Health care...unemployment...teen pregnancy...drugs...crime...homelessness...mental illness... these things are ALL OUR PROBLEMS. There's a rat trap in the house.
Racism...corruption...fraud...there's a rat trap in the house people and unless we keep an eye on things we will all fall one by one by one.
