A Lady Is A Leader, Even In Her Absence
July 1, 2011 by The Lady Is A Leader | Edit
Recently, I was involved in a conversation which I felt was encouraging as well as productive. As the conversation ended, the person wrote this statement to me, and I share with you:
“Design your personality so that you are welcome when you enter, missed when you exit and the aroma of your presence remains long after your physical image has faded“
From The Book-Diamonds For Your Destiny-Pastor BJ(2008)
Mind you, I wrote this proclamation in the year of 2008, however I now realize how profound it is in 2011. This has truly been a year of exits. Katie Couric exited her post as the news anchor of The Evening News, Mary Hart made a grand exit from Entertainment Tonight, and Oprah Winfrey made a historic exit from 25 years of daytime television.
I have also had the opportunity to view those who have exited their places of employment, some willingly and some surprisingly. It’s been amazing to witness homemakers exit the home and enter into college, in what some would think would be the time to rest. I am seeing a burst of energy to exit a complacent lifestyle and grasp the rings of opportunity and adventure.
My thoughts on each exit and entrance is; what fragrance have you presented, or what aroma have you left?
While many many not always agree with your decisions, or choices, just to see you enter the environment should announce a statement that something good is going to happen, just because you’re there!
During your time spent in the presence of others, when you exit, something should be missing….a spark, a smile, your humor, your wisdom. The very thought of you making an exit should cause those among you to long for you to delay your departure.
There are conversations which spark our memory bank when speaking of exits. Many of us recall the last MASH episode, some were glued to the television when Mary Tyler Moore turned off the lights at WJM. Advertisers raced to present their products during the exit episode of Seinfeld, because they knew consumers are prone to “memory”.
When you exit an environment, what aroma lingers long after your physical image has faded? What gift have you left with your co-workers? What deposit have you placed within your men-tees? What characteristics would those who have had an encounter with you want to implement in their lives? What memory will be implanted in their heart and mind?
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matt 5:16 KJV
We must realize we lead by example, dialouge, and body language, much more than; a power point presentation, a lecture or a sermon.
So consider the light within you and allow it to shine from sea to shining sea, so that even when you exit, there will be conversation about the God you serve and how you represented HIM as a Lady Leader.
