Many people conclude that people that are poor are that way through some fault of their own. This is the kind of reasoning that makes it easy to close their hearts and hands to the needy. But we are not to invent reasons for ignoring the poor. God wishes for us to respond to their needs regardless to why or what was responsible for their condition.
Read Deuteronomy 15:7-11
We may not be able to help (financially) all we would like too, but we all can do something for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Remember that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Start by cleaning out your closets, I am sure there are items that you do not wear any longer that someone else is in dire need of. Toys your children no longer play would be greatly appreciated by a poor mother who cannot afford such luxuries for their own children. You can make donations to local shelters, recovery homes, Salvation Army, Red Cross and Churches or food pantries. Or you may even choose to donate your time which is one of the most precious commodities. God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others.
