How do you react to tough times?

I know I am blessed to have a relatively easy life compared to some that have been through serious illness, trauma, and the rest of things that life throws at us. My biggest challenge has always been finding my niche and financial instability as a result of that...I have no kids and a pretty good marriage. My parents are both in heaven as a result of cancer and I am trying to prevent that for myself by the way I live and eat and take care of myself.

Then I read about Susan Boyle or see people that have tried to "break through" and see the triumph of the spirit that perseveres well past their prime and give them kudos...I want to be "that story" - to be a success after years of trying and breaking through.

But what about people that have had some tough times - gone through agonizing pain and come out the other side, stronger in spirit than before? Take for example, the Columbine kids, 10 years later - they are all doing better, maybe with a limp and some emotional scars, but after a few years of therapy coupled with a "victor" mentality - here is an article about them - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/columbine_s_survivors
