From one insignificant poet, to the Queen of Literature
I’m not going to lie and say, I’ve read all your books
I’m not in awe of your existence and persistence
And endeavors to teach and to preach a new generation
Of young girls and women to Rise and Rise Again
Actually, I don’t know “Why the Caged Bird Sings”
Nor have I ever awakened in New York City
Although, once I spent a disgusting day in Queens
Passing through to reach my final destination
I must reveal a brave and startling truth
The hotel or shall I say a Hoe tells me of a decent place to lay my head
When I arrived I was plagued with the outlines of dead men that
Reminded me of “Coming to America” You know, the one
Where Eddie Murphy and kin requested to stay in one of the most despicable places
Passing time while searching for a phenomenal woman to marry
Hmm, where was I at??? Oh, now I know, while staying in Queens
I became an insomniac and my refusal to stay Inn. The Hoe’ tells
Me of a better place, detached from this city’s momma’s welfare roll district
On the pulse of the morning, I rose and went home.
I’m not going to brag and say I knew you when, because I don’t
I’m not going to say, “She was so this and so that” no I won’t
But what I will say is, while passing through to glory
You are truly TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL…..
