Putting P.E.P. into your Step

P. – Patience

E. – Excitement/Encouragement/Expectation

P. – Perseverance

In considering this topic the Bible has a lot of things to say about it. There are 3 main sections, but as you will see, many times these subjects over lap.

2 Corinthians 13:1  This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

When we put a little P.E.P.  in our Step there is nothing that we cannot do/achieve for the Glory of Almighty God.

  1. P - Patience – The state or quality of being patient; the power of suffering with fortitude; uncomplaining endurance of evils or wrongs, as toil, pain, poverty, insult, oppression, calamity, etc.

  • Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Psalm 37:7-9

                7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who            prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

                8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

                9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the    earth.

            1 Peter 2:19-23

                19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering       wrongfully.

                20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently?     but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

                21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an        example, that ye should follow his steps:

                22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

                23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

            Romans 5 5:1-5

            1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus        Christ:

                2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in    hope of the glory of God.

  • 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh   patience;
  • 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

                5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by             the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

            James 5:7-8

            7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman     waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive      the early and latter rain.

                8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

  • Isaiah 40:28-31

            28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the        Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his        understanding.

                29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

                30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

                31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with   wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

            Hebrews 10:35-39

            35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

                36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive             the promise.

  • 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

                38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no            pleasure in him.

                39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the    saving of the soul.

            Ecclesiastes 7:8  Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in             spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

  • Hebrews 12:1   Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of           witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let             us run  with patience the race that is set before us,
  • Hebrews 6:15   And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

            1 Timothy 1:12-17

                12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me                       faithful, putting me into the ministry;

                13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy,     because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

                14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in        Christ Jesus.

                15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the    world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

                16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life   everlasting.

                17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory             for ever and ever. Amen.

            Proverbs 16:32    He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

            Colossians 3:12-17

  • 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness,           humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
  • 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against            any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

                14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

                15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one         body; and be ye thankful.

                16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one            another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the        Lord.

                17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving      thanks to God and the Father by him.

            Galatians 5:22-23

            22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

                23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

            2 Peter 1:5-8

            5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

                6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

                7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

                8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren   nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Ephesians 4:1-2

            1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation   wherewith ye are called,

                2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

            1 Corinthians 4:5    Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who      both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the       counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

  1. 2.     E. –
    1. Excitement –that which moves, stirs, or induces action; a motive. Another word for excitement is Enthusiasm.

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson from The Selected Writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson

Comes from the Greek entheos "possessed by a god" (theos (God) and en (within))?

 So, when you're enthusiastic, GOD is within you.

Now the Bible says that there are 2 Gods that are in control in of everything that goes on in this world we live in. 1. The 1 and only True and Living Almighty God that created Everything, and 2. The “god of this world” he is a self-proclaimed god; he is a false god and is subject to The True Almighty God. The god of this world is only interested in lying, cheating, killing, stealing, and creating mass confusion. He is the enemy of ALL of mankind, he tried and FAILED Miserably to overthrow Almighty God and was kicked out of Heaven as a result. He does not anyone of mankind to obtain what he lost, thus he will do anything he can to try and stop us.

The Bible says that “No man can serve two Masters”. You are going to serve the Winner or the Loser; it is a choice that each one of us has to make for our own self and not for another.

Matthew 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Mammon = The Devil)

Motivation is defined as “that which moves one toward an action; that which changes, provokes, or impels our very being.”

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.

  • Romans 8:31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

  • Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Proverbs 10:4

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Proverbs 10:15

The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

  1. Encouragement –  The act of encouraging; incitement to action or to practice

  1.  makes it easier to love as Jesus loved
  2. gives hope
  3. helps us through times of discipline and testing
  4. nurtures patience and kindness
  5. helps us experience abundant life

Basically  encouragement makes it easier to live the Christian life.

  • Hebrews 4:15

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

  • John 16:33   These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 13:34-35

                34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you,                that ye also love one another.

                35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

  • Romans 15:4   For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our        learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

            1 Corinthians 13:4-7

            4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not             puffed up,

                5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh    no evil;

                6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

                7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

  • John 10:10    The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

  1. Expectation - The act or state of expecting or looking forward to an event as about to happen.

            You can also say that we have Godly Goals in our lives. These goals help drive us to         fulfill the greatest potential that we can obtain. A person with Godly Goals with not waste     time nor energy in the things that they are pursuing.

  • Proverbs 3:5-7

            5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

                6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

                7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

  • Romans 8:28   And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
  • John 15:7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it       shall be done unto you.
  • Matthew 6:33   But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these      things shall be added unto you.
  • Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God       must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
  • Matthew 7:7-8

            7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened        unto you:

                8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

  1. P. – Perseverance - Persistence under harsh conditions; continued pursuit or prosecution of any business, or enterprise begun.

            1 Corinthians 9:24-27

            24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run,    that ye may obtain.

                25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to            obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

                26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

                27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I   have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

            2 Thessalonians 3:13

            13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

  • Galatians 6:7-9

            7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also      reap.

                8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to     the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

                9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  • James 1:12  Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall             receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
